Yobe cargo airport to serve Northeast in commodities, livestock trade

The Yobe State government in collaboration with the Qatar government is to commence international trade in two cash crops and livestock to earn foreign exchange at the commodity markets.
The commodities that could be traded, include Gum Arabic and sesame seeds, which the State has comparative advantages of producing them for exports.
Director General on media and press affairs, to Governor Mai Mala Buni, Mamman Mohammed, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday in Damaturu that, “Buni and the Qatar Ambassador to Nigeria, Ali Ghanem Alhajri met and deliberated on the mutual economic interests, particularly in the production and exports of Gum Arabic and sesame seeds for foreign exchange.”
Besides, he added that Yobe is leading in the production of targeted cash crops and livestock, including cattle and camels for their products.

On the viable international trade with Qatar, Buni, in the statement, said: “Yobe State is a potential hub for international commodity trading between the Northeast sub-region and foreign countries in Europe and the Middle East.”
He stated that the commissioned international cargo airport, Damaturu will support international trade between Qatar and the six states in the northeast.
Buni continued; “We’ve large quantities of sesame seeds, Gum Arabic and livestock that are suitable for international trade.
