Yobe executive council earmarks N12.8 billion for capital projects

The Yobe State Executive Council (SEC) has earmarked N12.8 billion for various capital projects across the state.
The approved projects; for execution include three road projects for the procurement of 10 Toyota utility vehicles to ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) and the Governor’s Office.

While breaking down the projects for completion, the Commissioner of Information, Mohammed Lamin at the weekend (Thursday) in Damaturu, disclosed that the state council approved the release of N12.8 billion for MDAs’ utility vehicles and construction of three roads.
“We deliberated on a wide range of issues affecting the state, before approving the procurement of vehicles and completion of the roads,” he said.
According to him, the completion of capital projects could raise the living standards of people across the state.
He added that the projects, when completed, could also drive economic development and growth that were halted during the over a decade Boko Haram insurgency.
Lamin further disclosed that the 10 utility vehicles for the MDAs and Governor’s Office will gulp N468 million.
On the earmarked road projects, he said: “The council approved the construction of 30-km Balanguwa.Kumagannam, 16-km stone-based pavement of Nguru/Balanguwa and 10-km Chimbusko/Tagali roads at the total cost of N9.92 billion.”
He added that the state council also approved the ‘variation and additional works’ for the construction of the Maternal and Child Health complex at the Yobe State University (YSU).

He noted that the completion of the healthcare project will also gulp N749.52 million.
Besides, he explained that the revised additional works and fluctuations in building materials prices for the Potiskum new market; led to the earmark of N1.2 billion to complete it.
