Yobe relaxes curfew by 12 hours in three towns over protests

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has reviewed the curfew by 12 hours in Gashua, Nguru, and Potiskum over last week’s protests for economic hardships.
According to him, the relaxed curfew followed a review of the security situation in the three affected towns during the protests.
The Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Mohammed, Wednesday, in a statement in Damaturu, disclosed: “The relaxation of curfew for 12 hours followed a careful assessment and noticeable improvement in the security situation across the state.”
Consequently, he said that the curfew now commences on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily, until the security situation further improves in the affected three towns.
While leading the security council meeting at the Government House, Buni commended the security agencies for handling the security situation professionally.
His words: “We’re dismayed with the sudden appearance of hoodlums and criminals who hid under the protest to destroy and loot government and private properties in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru.”
Buni noted that this led to the declaration of a curfew in the three towns.
He, therefore, warned parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children and wards.
The governor said that the parents should not allow their children to be used as agents of destruction and looting.

According to him, members of the public are to be vigilant and report cases of illicit transactions, including trafficking and the sale and consumption of illicit drugs in communities.

“We cannot afford to condone any form of violence and insecurity to people’s lives and property,” he warned.
