Yobe Stakeholders Applaud FG’s ASSEP as Catalyst for Educational Reform
Education stakeholders in Yobe have praised the Federal Government’s Accelerated Senior Secondary Education Programme (ASSEP), calling it a groundbreaking initiative poised to elevate education standards across the state.
The commendations were given at an engagement session with the Project Implementation Team held in Damaturu on Friday, where teachers and officials lauded ASSEP’s positive impact on schools, teachers, and students.
Mr. Benard Antso, a teacher, described ASSEP as a “remarkable initiative by the Federal Government” that enhances educational quality while empowering educators and students. He highlighted the 1-Million Teacher Training programme as a key contributor to improved teacher productivity and skills.
Mrs. Ladi Disa, another educator, expressed gratitude for ASSEP’s role in equipping teachers to deliver high-quality education, stressing the need for the programme’s expansion to reach even more educators across the state.
Prof. Abba Idris, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, expressed Yobe’s commitment to fully harnessing ASSEP’s potential. He noted that the programme aligns with the state’s goals for educational reform and urged teachers to embrace its resources for personal and professional growth.
Chairperson of the Project Implementation Team, Hajiya Sa’adatu Shehu, praised Yobe’s dedication to education, noting the state government’s funding of WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB examination fees as a testament to its support for ASSEP’s goals.
Dr. Mariam Masha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Regional Development Programmes, underscored ASSEP’s commitment to sustainable, high-impact education with support from the North East Development Commission (NEDC). She highlighted the programme’s emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Agriculture (STEMA) as essential for empowering the region’s youth and driving future growth.
During the session, the Project Implementation Team inspected facilities at Government Girls Unity College, Government Secondary School, Business and Engineering Skills Training Centre, and the Yobe State Information Technology Development Agency, signaling the state’s proactive approach to educational advancement.
