Zulum clinches the EMAN award for excellence in environment, others

Borno state governor, Babagana Zulum, has clinched an award from the Environmental Management Association of Nigeria (EMAN) for excellence.
According to the association, the awards of excellence were to recognize Zulum as the most environmentally friendly governor in the country.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dauda Iliya, in a statement Saturday, in Maiduguri, said:
“The apex professional body for environmental managers in Nigeria announced the nomination of awards in a statement of the national secretary of EMAN, Dr. Ubong Harrison.
The spokesman said that the award of excellence will be presented to Zulum at EMAN’s 2024 Annual Conference, slated for November 13, in Abuja.
Ijiya said the conference theme was “Building Resilience Against Land Degradation and Climate. Change in Nigeria” will bring all stakeholders from the environmental sector of the economy.
He noted that Zulum’s leadership in establishing the Great Green Wall (GGW) agency in the state has spearheaded the transplanting of over three million trees in 2024.
He noted that the planting of trees was to halt the spread of desertification and climate change.
The environmental association also the state’s participation in the Agro-Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Programme.
“The state’s participation has underscored the commitments to overcoming the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation in the state,” said Iliya in the statement.
Other fellowship awards were also received from the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE), the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), and the National Postgraduate Medical College (NPMC).
