Zulum distributes irrigation, farm inputs to 1,750 Borno farmiers

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has distributed irrigation and farm inputs to boost the production of rice and maize in the South senatorial district.
According to him, the Government has also planned to support 10,000 farmers next year in the River Hawul Basin.

Flagging off yesterday (Sunday) the 2021 dry season farming in Shani, he said that potential farmers in the basin are to be identified for the rice and maize farm projects.
The farm inputs include 444 water pumps and 2,000 bags of rice and maize seeds of the Sen. Ali Ndume constituency projects in the senatorial district.
“We are targeting 10,000 irrigation farmers from the Hawul Basin in the 2022 farming season,” he said.
He warned the farmers against selling the inputs; a monitoring team has already been set up to check diversion and sale of inputs.
Inuwa Kubo, the Committee Chairman of Borno Mega Farms (BOMF), disclosed that the dry season farmers were provided with fertilizers, water pumps and agro-chemicals, as well as the distribution of seeds for corn and rice.

He said the registration and support of wheat farmers from the three Councils will commence in December, 2021.
He therefore urged them to harness the rich agricultural resources in the River Basin to boost production of wheat for domestic and industrial uses.
