Borno state governor, Babagana Zulum has employed 18 doctors and nurses with the re-instatement of 23 health workers to boost healthcare delivery services in two local government councils.
According to him, the 41 health personnel are to run the General Hospitals in Uba and Gwoza communities, bordering Cameroon in south senatorial district of the state.
Zulum unveiled the employment of doctors, yesterday (Tuesday), in Gwoza, while inspecting the renovated maternity and child wards of the hospital.
“The decision to suspend the 23 health workers; was because of absence from their duty posts at the Gwoza general hospital early during my earlier visit,” he said.
While emphasizing the workers commitment to healthcare delivery, he assured them of improved working conditions and other incentives, including working hazard allowances.
Speaking on the earlier suspension, the governor said: “Complaints were made about the 23 health workers; who were abstinent during my last visit to Gwoza,” noting that no one is perfect, as the state government has pardoned them.
“There are no salary arrears for the period of their suspension,” he declared to the reinstated workers.
In addressing the dearth of workers by the Principal Medical Officer, Dr. Nuhu Wakawa, Zulum ordered for the engagement of four doctors each and 10 nurses for the General Hospitals at Gwoza and Uba.
Besides the engagement of 41 health personnel, Zulum pledged to upgrade the hospital with the support of training the nursing students of College of Nursing and Midwifery under construction.
Additionally, he said that the Commissioner of Health, Prof. Babagana Mallam Gana and the Chief Medical Director of the Hospitals Management Board, will work out the deployment of doctors and nurses.
He noted that to strengthen healthcare delivery services in the council, the state government will employ more community health workers.
