Zulum enrols 1.5 million out-of-school children into Borno primary schools

Governor Babagana Zulum has enrolled 1.5 million out-of-school children into Borno primary and secondary schools.
According to him, the enrolment program has reduced the number of children out of school by 700,000, or 70 percent.
Zulum disclosed this Tuesday, in Maiduguri, while inaugurating Government Secondary School, Mairi, along with the World Bank Country Director in Nigeria, Dr. Ndiame Diop.
He said in the last five years, the state government has undertaken significant investments in the education sector by rebuilding the many destroyed schools.
Highlighting the construction of 104 schools to the country director, he added that 2,931 classrooms were rebuilt with the distribution of millions of instructional materials to basic and secondary schools across the state.
Zulum went on: “We’ve distributed free educational materials, including 22 million text and exercise books, 15 million sets of uniforms, 700,000 school bags, and about a million other learning tools.”
He noted that the school feeding program has benefitted over 50,000 pupils every year.
Besides these education initiatives, Zulum added, “The state government distributed 10,000 bicycles to overcome challenges of students movements in rural areas.
He thanked the World Bank for supporting the state in the development projects, particularly the Multi Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP), and three other World Bank-funded projects in Borno state.
Diop commended the state government’s commitments in rebuilding its education sector.
He noted that the bank has supported the construction of 41 secondary schools with the rehabilitation of 392 others in the state.
