Zulum Flags Off 600 Housing Units for Teachers in Borno
Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has taken a bold step to improve teachers’ welfare by laying the foundation stone for the construction of 600 housing units across five local government areas.
The housing project, launched on Wednesday in Biu, will provide 100 units in each of the designated councils—Magumeri, Hawul, Gubio, Biu, and another in Borno North Senatorial District. The initiative aims to address the accommodation challenges faced by teachers, ensuring a conducive living environment to enhance educational service delivery.
“In each of the five council areas, 100 houses will be completed this year for our teachers,” Zulum stated. He also announced the construction of 200 additional housing units at the Borno State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) to accommodate health personnel.
The estates will include essential infrastructure such as roads, clinics, drainage systems, and security posts to ensure the safety of residents. Recreational and sporting centers, along with other social amenities, will also be part of the housing projects.
Dignitaries at the foundation-laying event included the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Bello Ayuba; the Senator representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume; the Emir of Biu, Mai Mustapha Umar Mustapha; and the Acting Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Babagana Mallumbe.
Governor Zulum’s administration has prioritized teachers’ welfare as part of efforts to revamp the education sector in Borno State, which has been affected by insurgency and infrastructural deficits. This latest initiative reinforces his commitment to improving living conditions for educators and health workers, ensuring they remain motivated in their service to the people.
