Zulum inaugurates Eye, Dental hospitals to boost service delivery in Borno’s health sector

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has inaugurated a multi-billion-naira eye and dental hospital along the Biu-Maiduguri Road.
According to him, the 56-bed capacity eye hospital has two operational theatres, consulting rooms, an office complex, and male and female wards.
Unveiling the two hospitals on Tuesday in Biu, Zulum disclosed, “The new dental hospital has an edifice equipped with similar health facilities in providing dental care services to the people in the south senatorial district.”
Highlighting the healthcare delivery services, he said that it was in fulfilment of the electioneering campaign promises that two hospitals are established in the south and north senatorial districts of the state.
The governor stated, “I am today delighted that the Eye and Dental hospitals have been actualised in southern Borno,” noting that very soon the ones in Borno north will be completed this year.
He said the state government will continue to partner with Dangote, Milinda, and Gate Foundations in providing qualitative and affordable healthcare services to the people.
He, therefore, commended the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu for ensuring peace in the state. The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital Management Board, Prof. Abubakar Kullima, described the inaugurated hospitals as centres for service delivery and training and retraining of health workers on eye and dental care.
Kullima further disclosed that the hospitals are fully equipped with modern medical and health facilities that align with global health standards.
The Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Prof. Baba Mallam Gana, also noted that it is only in Borno State that an eye and dental hospital is sited in the south senatorial district.
“The health sector is a complex ecosystem, which has been accorded priority by the Zulum administration. He said this will advance the state of healthcare delivery to the doorsteps of residents.
He further stated that the 15 percent budgetary allocations to the health sector were to achieve universal health coverage (UHC), including addressing maternal and child mortalities and malnutrition with the application of technology and other innovations.
