Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has laid the foundation for the construction of 500 houses in the Wala community of Gwoza local council.
The border community with Cameroon has been severally attacked by Boko Haram insurgents since 2012.
Laying the foundation stone on Wednesday in Gwoza, the governor disclosed: “Since the displacement of Wala residents, after torching their houses, they had been living in IDP camps of Pulka,” adding that others continue to squat with family relations in Gwoza for over a decade.
Zulum, however, noted that six border communities with Cameroon are yet to be resettled by the state government, including Ashgashiya, Barawa, and Kughum.
In completing the housing project, he directed the Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (RRR) to engage indigent contractors that strictly abide by the terms of contracts.
Additionally, he said that the housing project comprises semi-detached and self-contained apartments.
He, therefore, ordered the deployment of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to the project site to secure the community.
According to him, the housing project will be completed before the end of this year.
In a related development, the governor also empowered 1, 000 women with N50 million.
