Zulum orders two-year tax breaks for Borno flood victims
Ms. Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has approved a two-year tax break for traders affected by the last September flood disasters that destroyed the Maiduguri Monday Market (MMM).
According to him, the tax break was to ease the financial burdens and encourage business growth and development of the local economy.
He lamented the devastating floods that caused economic hardships, leading to many residents losing their means of income.
The Executive Chairman, Borno State Internal Revenue Service (BOIRS), Prof. Ibrahim Bello Alhaji, over the weekend stated, “The two-year tax wave is part of the Zulum administration tax reforms that prioritize the ease of doing business in the state.”
He noted that the 47% increase in the internally generated revenues (IGR) in 2024, has ranked the state 12th among the 36 states in the improved and digitized tax administration programmes.
Highlighting the ongoing projects in Jiddari-Umarari, GRA, Bulumkutu, Customs, and Chad Basin communities, he said: “They are all funded from the N28.3 billion IGR without relying on the monthly federation account allocations.“
