Zulum pledges to rebuild Gambouru gutted market in Borno

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has pledged to assist victims of the Gambouru market fire incident in Maiduguri metropolis.
The grains and vegetables market; was gutted by fire on Saturday, while the Governorship and Assembly elections were ongoing in Gambouru ward of Jere Council.
While sympathizing with the traders, yesterday (Sunday), at the Gambouru gutted market, the Governor, disclosed: “The torched market is the largest grains and vegetables suppliers to the metropolis,” lamenting that the Maiduguri Monday Market (MMM) was also flattened by fire; three weeks ago.

He, therefore, assured the affected traders that the gutted parts of the market will be rebuilt along with the destroyed Monday market.
His words: “We’ve witnessed another fire incident here in Gambouru market.
“I want to commiserate with the traders who lost their property and want to assure them that the Government will come to their aid.”
He also directed the 24-member Monday Market Committee to assess the situation at Gambouru market, with a view to cushion the hardship of traders.
Zulum commended the security personnel, emergency and humanitarian agencies for their prompt response of putting off the raging market fire. .
Besides, a similar fire outbreak was also reported at the timber market in Biu town, south part of the state, destroying some of the market shops and stalls.
