Zulum reviews, validates Borno climate resilience plan of action

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state, has said that government is review and validate its Climate Resilience Action Plan (BCRAP) for the 2023 to 2040 period.
According to him, the review and validation, are in response to the life-threatening and negative impacts of climate change in the State.
The International Centre for Energy, Environment and Development (ICEED) organised the review and validation and support ed by the European Union (EU) to mitigate climate change.
Zulum, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Habib Abadam, disclosed, on Thursday in Maiduguri that the workshop review of BCRAP is critical in the progression and eventual implementation of action plan.
“Today’s event presents a very rare opportunity to refine the plan further by harnessing the collective experiences of organisations and individuals on the importance of the climate change project,” he said
He said that the priority sectors action plan comprise agriculture, water resources, forestry, energy, commerce and industry.

He explained that each of the sectors, has to be strengthened and integrated to promote the sustainability of the 16-year climate resilience action plan.
Besides, he added that in the short and long-term activities, including the domestication of National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy (NATIP) will be adopted for implementation.
Continuing; “This will enable farmers develop a climate smart agriculture toolbox,” adding that the benefits of the plan of action could also be sustained to restore people’s livelihoods.
The Environment boss noted that the inclusiveness of the people in implementation; would reduce vulnerability to enhance equity and food security.
He told the stakeholders at the workshop; that the document to be validated for implementation, is to be reviewed every five years.
After review of action plan, the stakeholders unanimously supported the validation of the document for implementation.
