Zulum signs N616b 2025 Borno budget into law
By Tada Juthan, Maiduguri
Governor Babagana Zulum has signed the N615.86 billion 2025 appropriation bill into law. The State House of Assembly, however, raised the budget by N31.1 billion, or 5.7 percent of the total budgetary proposals of N584.76 billion, on December 9, 2024.
Assenting to the passed bill on Monday in Maiduguri, Zulum charged heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and members of the state executive council (SEC) to strictly adhere to the provisions of the budget while presenting their memos for approvals.
On the Assembly’s quick passage of the budget, he said, “This is very important, as the development strides could not have been achieved with the full support and leadership of the State House of
Assembly, Hon. Abdulkarim Lawn.” “This year is important to me, as I wanted to redeem all the pledges made during the 2023 electioneering campaigns to the people.” While defending the Assembly’s increase of budget, Lawan noted that it was to capture critical sectors in the budget to improve the living conditions of the people in the state.
Meanwhile, the governor appointed the Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Mustapha Mallumbe, as his Deputy Chief of Staff. Mallumbe’s new appointment followed a vacuum created as a result of the ill health of the Chief of Staff, Prof. Hussaini Marte.
