Zulum urges Muslims to uphold piety, two others at Ramadan
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has urged Muslims to embrace the virtues of piety, charity, and moderation as enshrined in the Qur’an and teachings of Prophet Mohammed.
Zulum also highlighted the spiritual values of Ramadan as the essential tools for fostering a resilient, patriotic, and charitable citizen of the country.
The governor made the call on Sunday during the Annual Ramadan Lecture at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) held in Ile-Ife, Oyo State.
The governor, who is the special guest of honour at the lecture, urged Muslims to remain prayerful and patriotic by being patient throughout the holy month of March 2025.
Besides being patriotic during Ramadan, he encouraged Muslims to promote religious tolerance by engaging in philanthropic activities for the less privileged in society.
He noted that the activities will serve as exemplary ambassadors of Islam to foster unity and understanding with Christians and other faithful in the country.
Delivering the lecture titled “Navigating Economic Difficulties in Nigeria through Reliance on God,” Prof. Badmus Olanrewaju Yusuf, the Quest Lecturer, urged Muslims to uphold the Islamic principles of divine reliance, resource equity distribution through Zakat, and other voluntary charity and compassion to the less privileged in society.
He, however, advised against wasteful spending and immoral acts during the holy month of Ramadan.
“You are to imbibe discipline and self-restraint,” he declared. Chairman of the Lecture, Prof. Yusuf Olaolu Ali (SAN), expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum for his generosity and commitment to fostering unity in the various communities in the country.
He urged the Nigerian Muslim leaders to support faith-based initiatives and charitable activities.
“These will promote godliness, civic responsibility, and cultural philanthropy. Meanwhile, Zulum donated N50 million on behalf of the state government and people to support charitable initiatives, including fraternity and communal harmony in the OAU Muslim community.
