21 Missing as Two Boats Collide in Lagos Lagoon
A tragic boat accident in Imore town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Lagos State, has left 21 passengers missing after two boats collided in the lagoon on Monday, 7th October 2024.
Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, stated that “The accident was reported to the Ilashe Police Division around 7 pm. “Emergency teams, including marine police and local divers, swiftly responded to the scene, rescuing 11 injured passengers who were taken to the Naval Hospital in Navy Town, Alakija, for treatment.”
“On 7th October 2024, a distress call was received reporting that two unregistered passenger boats, each carrying 16 passengers, collided in the lagoon at Imore town. Both boats capsized, with passengers and their goods submerged,” Mr. Hundeyin stated.
He added that efforts to recover the remaining passengers are ongoing, and an investigation into the cause of the collision has been launched.
