7th China International Import Expo Opens in Shanghai, Showcases Global Market Access
The 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE), the world’s first national-level event focused on imports, opened on Tuesday in Shanghai, bringing together global businesses and industry leaders eager to engage in China’s expanding market.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered the keynote address at the expo’s opening ceremony and at the Hongqiao International Economic Forum. He emphasized China’s commitment to economic openness, noting that the country has reduced its overall tariff level to 7.3 percent, surpassing the earlier target of 9.8 percent. Li highlighted that China has fully implemented all previous CIIE commitments, including removing manufacturing from the national negative list for foreign investment.
Li affirmed China’s readiness to expand market access in sectors like telecommunications, internet, education, culture, and healthcare, stressing the strong fundamentals of the Chinese economy and its capability for sustained growth. China remains on track to meet its economic and social goals for 2024, he added.
Running through Nov. 10, the 7th CIIE has drawn approximately 3,500 exhibitors from 129 countries and regions, including 297 Fortune Global 500 companies. Over 400 new products, technologies, and services are expected to debut at the event, reflecting global companies’ confidence in China’s market despite global economic challenges.
