Inuwa Yahaya Defends Gombe Projects, Says Government Focused on Grassroots Development

Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya says his administration will sustain investments in infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and rural development aimed at improving the living conditions of residents across the state.
The governor stated these plans during a live media chat aired on several broadcast platforms in Gombe, where he highlighted achievements recorded by his administration in different sectors.
Mr Yahaya said the establishment of Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) was part of deliberate efforts to bring governance closer to people at the grassroots.
According to him, many projects executed across the 11 local government areas were achieved through collaboration between the state government and local councils.
“We created the LCDAs to ensure that governance gets closer to the people, especially those in rural communities,” the governor said.
He said his administration had expanded access to healthcare by ensuring that at least one or two primary healthcare centres existed in each of the 114 political wards in the state.
The governor also spoke about the ongoing solar-powered electricity project in Talasse and neighbouring communities through the Balanga Dam initiative, noting that the project would improve electricity supply in the area.
Mr Yahaya said the state government had also constructed roads connecting communities and farming settlements to ease transportation and support agricultural activities.
“We have continued to open up rural areas through road construction so that farmers can easily transport their produce to markets,” he said.
On environmental management, the governor disclosed that the state, in partnership with the World Bank, was implementing erosion control projects valued at over N40 billion within the Gombe metropolis.
He also revealed that the government had spent about N6 billion on water supply projects, including the construction of new substations aimed at improving water distribution across the state capital.
The governor, however, expressed concern over residents who build structures on water pipelines, saying such activities obstruct water infrastructure and affect supply to communities.
“It is unfortunate that some people build houses on water pipelines, making it difficult for the government to maintain and expand water facilities,” he said.
Mr Yahaya assured residents that his administration would continue subsidising fertiliser and other agricultural inputs to support farmers ahead of the rainy season.
He also described the Gombe State Health Contributory Scheme, known as GoHealth, as one of the administration’s successful healthcare initiatives.
According to him, other states seeking to improve healthcare delivery systems have studied the programme as a model.

GOGIS Generates ₦7.5bn in Land-Related Revenue, Deepening Gombe's Digital Land Reform

GOGIS Generates N7.5bn in Land-Related Revenue, Deepening Gombe’s Digital Land Reform

By Auwal Ahmad, Gombe
The Gombe Geographic Information System (GOGIS) has generated more than ₦7.5 billion in land-related revenue while digitising over 45,000 land records, as Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya commissioned a new GOGIS Field Office in the Shehu Abubakar District and flagged off a statewide land title recertification exercise.
The governor described the event as a major milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to modernise land administration, strengthen property rights, and promote orderly urban development.
Speaking at the ceremony in Gombe on Thursday, Governor Inuwa Yahaya said the establishment of GOGIS has transformed a land administration system that was once characterised by poor record-keeping, multiple ownership claims, delays, and corruption into one driven by technology, transparency, and efficiency.
According to the governor, the agency has become a cornerstone of his administration’s urban development agenda, helping the government plan cities more effectively, safeguard land ownership, increase internally generated revenue, and attract private investment.
He noted that the reforms undertaken through GOGIS and the Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Authority (GOSUPDA) have changed the face of Gombe metropolis, particularly in the Shehu Abubakar District, where the government invested billions of naira in roads, drainage systems, schools, hospitals, security facilities, and other public infrastructure.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya said the district, once threatened by uncontrolled development and inadequate infrastructure, has now emerged as a modern urban corridor designed to accommodate the future growth of the state capital.
He further announced the commencement of a statewide land title recertification exercise aimed at migrating all manually issued land documents into the digital GOGIS platform.
The governor explained that the exercise would eliminate duplicate titles, strengthen ownership verification, protect landowners from fraud, and improve confidence among investors and financial institutions.
“We are building a system that guarantees transparency, protects property rights, and ensures that land administration serves the interests of both government and citizens,” he said.
The governor also disclosed that the state government has commenced plans for comprehensive street naming and house numbering across the state to improve urban governance, emergency response, security, and service delivery.
Earlier, the Director-General of GOGIS, Dr Kabiru Usman Hassan, highlighted the agency’s achievements since its establishment, revealing that more than 45,000 land records and over 52 layouts have been digitised, while approximately 18,000 customary land titles have been regularised.
He said the reforms have helped resolve long-standing land disputes, improve urban planning, eliminate fraudulent practices, and increase government revenue.
Dr Hassan described the newly commissioned field office as a strategic facility that would bring land administration services closer to residents, investors, developers, and institutions within the rapidly expanding Shehu Abubakar District.
He emphasised that the land title recertification exercise would provide an additional layer of security for landowners by integrating existing documents into a secure digital database.
The GOGIS Director-General also acknowledged the challenges encountered during the reform process, including resistance from vested interests, but maintained that adherence to the law and public interest remained the guiding principles behind every decision taken by the agency.
As his tenure draws to a close, Dr Hassan expressed appreciation to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for providing the political support needed to implement reforms that have earned Gombe recognition as one of Nigeria’s leading states in digital land administration.
The Gombe Geographic Information System serves as the state’s central land management agency, responsible for digitising land records, issuing Certificates of Occupancy, maintaining accurate property databases, and supporting urban planning. Its reforms have strengthened property rights, improved revenue generation, reduced land disputes, enhanced investor confidence, and created a more transparent and efficient system for land administration across Gombe State.

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will record a sweeping victory in the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for June 28, 2026, as the party formally presented flags to its chairmanship and councillorship candidates across the state.

Speaking during the flag presentation ceremony in Gombe, Governor Yahaya said the APC remained the dominant political force in the state and was determined to sustain its electoral successes at all levels.

According to him, the party’s growing influence is reflected in its representation across elective positions, noting that APC currently occupies all 24 seats allocated to the state in the House of Representatives.

“We are determined to repeat our electoral successes and retain all elective positions under the APC platform. Our strength lies in our unity, commitment and the confidence the people have in our leadership,” the governor said.

He stressed that the party’s objective was to maintain control of all local government councils and legislative seats, urging party members to remain focused and united ahead of the polls.

Governor Yahaya highlighted the role of the state’s 11 local government areas and 13 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in deepening grassroots governance, describing the initiative as a strategic step towards bringing government closer to the people.

He also used the occasion to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting critical infrastructure projects in the state, particularly the ongoing superhighway project aimed at improving connectivity across the North-East.

The governor noted that the project, recently inspected by Minister of Works David Umahi, would boost trade, create economic opportunities and improve the welfare of citizens across the region.

“We appreciate President Tinubu’s commitment to the development of Gombe State and the North-East. These projects are in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which continues to inspire confidence among Nigerians,” he stated.

Yahaya further reaffirmed his support for the administration’s development agenda, saying its policies were already yielding visible results across various sectors.

Earlier, the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, lauded Governor Yahaya for what he described as remarkable achievements in infrastructure, education and social development.

The APC chairman said his visit to various parts of Gombe State gave him the opportunity to witness firsthand the impact of government projects on residents.

“I visited communities, institutions, universities, road projects and cultural centres. What I saw was democracy working for the people. The projects are touching lives and improving livelihoods across the state,” he said.

Professor Nentawe noted that market women, traders, farmers and other residents expressed confidence in the APC government, attributing the party’s popularity to its focus on development and service delivery.

He also praised President Tinubu for ongoing and planned federal infrastructure projects across Northern Nigeria, including major road corridors linking Akwanga, Jos, Bauchi, Gombe and Maiduguri.

According to him, the projects would strengthen regional integration, facilitate commerce and significantly reduce travel time across the region.

The APC National Chairman further highlighted plans for a railway network connecting Port Harcourt to Maiduguri through key northern cities, as well as gas infrastructure projects designed to stimulate industrial growth and improve energy access.

He urged Governor Yahaya and APC stakeholders to continue mobilising support for the party while remaining committed to delivering democratic dividends to the people.

Professor Nentawe also celebrated the APC’s recent electoral victories, insisting that the party’s strength derives from its close connection with ordinary Nigerians.

“APC remains firmly rooted among the people. Our success is based on good governance, development and our commitment to improving the lives of citizens,” he said.

The flag presentation ceremony attracted party leaders, elected officials, traditional rulers and supporters from across the state, as APC intensified preparations for the June 28 local government elections.

Gombe, UNICEF Targets Child Malnutrition with N1bn Lifeline

The Gombe State Government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have unveiled a N1 billion intervention aimed at combating acute malnutrition among children, as alarming nutrition indicators continue to threaten the well-being of thousands of young children across the state.

The intervention, funded through a counterpart arrangement in which the state government and UNICEF contributed N500 million each, will provide Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) for the treatment of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition.

Speaking during a monitoring exercise of the nutrition commodities, the executive secretary of the Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Abdulrahman Shuaibu, described malnutrition as one of the most serious public health challenges confronting the state.

According to him, the therapeutic food products will be distributed across all local government areas to ensure that affected children receive timely treatment and nutritional support.

“These emergency foods, known as ready-to-use therapeutic food, are meant for the management of children with acute malnutrition. The Gombe State Government has provided N500 million as matching funds, while UNICEF also contributed N500 million, bringing the total investment to N1 billion,” he said.

Dr Shuaibu noted that the government was taking proactive measures because of the growing burden of child malnutrition in the state.

Recent findings from the Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) 2023-24 show that malnutrition remains a major concern in Gombe and across the North-East. The survey revealed that children in the region continue to face high levels of stunting, wasting and underweight conditions, indicators that reflect chronic and acute undernutrition.

The agency head said the intervention aims to save lives and get the supplies to the kids who need them most.

“Gombe has a high number of malnourished children, and this situation has compelled the government to take decisive action. We are monitoring the distribution process closely to ensure transparency and accountability so that these commodities reach the intended beneficiaries,” he stated.

Also speaking, UNICEF’s Vaccine Security and Logistics Representative in Gombe State, Pharmacist Abubakar Muhammad, said the intervention was informed by nutrition data that identified a significant number of children requiring urgent nutritional support.

“Based on available data, we observed that many children are suffering from malnutrition and require these nutritional supplements. That is why UNICEF intervened by providing ready-to-use therapeutic food for the management of malnourished children,” he explained.

Muhammad noted that UNICEF has maintained a strong partnership with Gombe State over the past seven years, supporting various health and nutrition programmes aimed at improving child survival and development.

“UNICEF has been supporting Gombe State for the past seven years, and we remain committed to sustaining this intervention and other programmes that improve the health and nutrition of children,” he added.

Health experts say severe acute malnutrition remains one of the leading causes of illness and death among children under five, especially in vulnerable communities where access to nutritious food is limited.

With the new N1 billion investment, thousands of children are expected to benefit from life-saving treatment, offering renewed hope to families struggling to protect their children from the devastating effects of hunger and malnutrition.

For many parents across Gombe, the intervention represents more than a government programme, it is a chance for their children to survive, recover and grow into healthy adults.
