Inuwa Inaugurates APC Reconciliation Committee, Seeks 1 Million Votes for Tinubu in Gombe
By Auwal Umar, Gombe
Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has inaugurated a reconciliation committee chaired by the Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, to resolve disputes arising from the All Progressives Congress (APC) congresses and primary elections, urging members to close ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor said the committee was established to reconcile aggrieved party members, aspirants and stakeholders, describing unity as essential to the APC’s chances in the forthcoming elections.
“Like every other human endeavour, we are bound to make mistakes. Nobody is perfect. Even though we believe we have done our best, if our best is not good enough, we must allow those who can add value to the system to stabilise and normalise it.
He noted that the party had concluded its congresses, primary elections and local government elections, saying the focus had now shifted to strengthening internal cohesion and preparing for the 2027 campaigns.
“Everything is back on track. The task before us is to ensure that we complete the final lap of this administration with a robust team that will lay the foundation for the next government,” he said.
Addressing the committee chairman, Dr Jatau, the governor recalled his role in leading a similar reconciliation exercise after the 2023 elections and expressed confidence that his experience would help the committee achieve better results.
“You were chairman in 2023, and you still remember what you did, how you did it and the results. This time, add more to what you did before so that we do not allow any rancour to divide our party or distract us from achieving the progress we seek.
He described members of the committee as seasoned politicians, administrators and public servants with decades of experience, expressing confidence in their ability to resolve lingering grievances and strengthen party cohesion.
The governor also set ambitious electoral targets for the APC, expressing confidence that the party would record a clean sweep in the 2027 elections.
“I don’t expect anything less than one million votes for President Bola Tinubu. I don’t expect anything less than all three Senate seats, all six House of Representatives seats, and all 24 seats in the State House of Assembly,” he said.
According to the governor, the committee is expected to identify and document grievances arising from the party’s congresses and primaries, engage aggrieved members, aspirants, and stakeholders; mediate between contending groups, promote dialogue, and advise the State Working Committee on integrating reconciled members into the party.
He said the committee would also ensure that all reconciliation efforts align with the APC Constitution and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Governor Yahaya further directed members to maintain strict confidentiality throughout their assignment.
“Maintain strict confidentiality in all your proceedings. There are enemies outside the party and, unfortunately, there may also be enemies within. You must protect the house you are building,” he said.
He urged the committee to commence work immediately and conclude its assignment within the shortest possible time to enable the party to focus on campaigns and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Responding on behalf of the committee, its chairman and Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, acknowledged the enormous responsibility placed on the committee, describing reconciliation within a political party as one of the most difficult assignments.
Drawing from his experience leading a similar committee after the 2023 elections, Dr Jatau recalled the numerous challenges encountered during the exercise, including distrust among party stakeholders and disputes over delegates.
“Having participated in the 2023 exercise, I can confidently say that this is a very difficult assignment. We encountered all kinds of challenges. There was hardly anything we did not hear during that process,” he said.
He recounted an incident where a party member unknowingly paid money to several people who falsely claimed to be authentic delegates before eventually locating the genuine one.
“At one point, a woman came to us in tears. She explained that she had been shown four different people, each introduced as the authentic delegate, and she gave money to each of them. By the time she was finally directed to the real delegate, she had exhausted all the money she had. Those experiences showed just how challenging reconciliation and party organisation can be,” he said.
Dr Jatau said political reconciliation was particularly difficult because party members often have divergent interests, expectations, and loyalties.
He acknowledged that some members of the newly inaugurated committee also had personal grievances, stressing that they would first reconcile among themselves before reaching out to others.
“I am also aware that even within the committee itself, some members have grievances. That means we must first reconcile ourselves before we can successfully reconcile others,” he said.
Despite the challenges, the deputy governor expressed confidence in the calibre of personalities appointed to the committee, describing them as respected, experienced, and committed party leaders capable of delivering on their mandate.
He recalled the demanding nature of the previous reconciliation exercise, saying committee members often worked late into the night to consult stakeholders across the state.
Dr Jatau also commended the committee’s secretary for his role during the 2023 reconciliation process, saying his patience and wisdom helped calm tensions and contributed significantly to the committee’s success.
He assured Governor Yahaya and APC members that the committee would work tirelessly to ensure genuine reconciliation ahead of the elections.
“We will do everything within our ability to ensure the success of our party and work towards APC’s victory from top to bottom in the forthcoming elections,” he said.
The deputy governor urged committee members to commence work without delay, noting that time was limited.
“Mr Secretary, we should immediately begin planning our first meeting because time is not on our side,” he said.

NDM Urges Calm in Enugu, Demands Probe into Reported Political Violence
By Chinedu Okafor, Enugu
The Nsukka Democratic Movement (NDM) has called on political parties, government officials and security agencies in Enugu State to uphold democratic principles, protect citizens’ rights and promote peaceful political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The movement made the appeal amid rising political tensions in the state, warning that violence, intimidation, inflammatory statements and the circulation of unverified allegations could threaten public confidence in the electoral process.
In a statement outlining its position, NDM said political differences should be resolved through dialogue, respect for the law and constructive engagement rather than confrontation.
The group’s reaction followed reports of incidents involving members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) at Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the party’s state secretariat in Enugu on October 10, 2026.
While the Enugu State Government has denied responsibility for the incidents, the police have announced an investigation into a reported shooting outside the party’s secretariat.
NDM called for a comprehensive, independent and transparent investigation to establish what happened, urging authorities to ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable under the law.
It stressed that political disagreements must not be used to justify violence, threats, destruction of property or interference with lawful political activities.
The movement also urged political parties, their supporters and public officials to avoid provocative statements and refrain from presenting unverified claims as established facts.
It called on security agencies to remain professional, impartial and independent in carrying out their duties, ensuring that all political parties and citizens can freely exercise their rights to association, peaceful assembly and political participation.
NDM SEEKS FAIR DEVELOPMENT FOR ENUGU NORTH
Beyond the security concerns, the movement urged the Enugu State Government to ensure that Enugu North Senatorial District receives adequate attention in the proposed 25-year development plan intended to guide the state’s growth through 2051.
NDM described the long-term plan as an opportunity to address critical challenges affecting communities across the district, particularly in rural infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth employment, access to clean water and sustainable economic development.
The group said the planning process should be inclusive and guided by evidence, with residents given meaningful opportunities to contribute to decisions affecting their communities.
It also called for clearly defined development targets and transparent monitoring mechanisms to track project implementation and measure progress.
NDM specifically highlighted the development needs of Nsukka, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Udenu, Uzo-Uwani, Igbo-Etiti and Isi-Uzo local government areas, urging the government to ensure that their priorities are adequately reflected in the final development framework.
The movement further called on elected representatives and public officials to regularly inform constituents about government projects, budget implementation and the delivery of essential services.
GROUP URGES ISSUE-BASED CAMPAIGNS AHEAD OF 2027
With political activities expected to intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, NDM cautioned politicians against allowing personal attacks, propaganda and political rivalries to overshadow discussions about public welfare.
It urged political parties and aspirants to focus their engagements with voters on employment, quality education, accessible healthcare, rural development, agricultural productivity, security, transparent governance and improved living conditions.
The group also encouraged candidates to present practical and measurable policy proposals, including clear implementation plans and realistic cost estimates, to enable citizens to assess their commitments.
According to the movement, residents of Enugu State, particularly those in Enugu North Senatorial District, should have opportunities to evaluate political programmes based on proposed policies and development priorities.
NDM said it would continue to promote civic participation, peaceful political engagement and issue-based public debate while scrutinising government policies and decisions affecting the interests of the people.
NDM CALLS FOR COLLECTIVE ACTION TO PRESERVE PEACE
Reiterating its position, the movement said peace, justice, accountability and inclusive development were essential to democratic progress.
It urged the state government, political parties, security agencies, traditional institutions, civil society organisations and community leaders to work together to sustain peace and ensure that the 2027 electoral process is conducted in a safe and lawful environment.
The group also appealed to young people to resist attempts by political actors to recruit them for violence, intimidation or the spread of false information.
It said political participation should be driven by informed choices, peaceful engagement and a commitment to the common good.
NDM pledged to continue advocating for the interests of Nsukka and Enugu North through constructive engagement, evidence-based commentary and calls for accountable governance and equitable development.
The movement said its objective remained the promotion of a democratic environment in which political differences are respected, public institutions are accountable and citizens’ welfare takes priority over partisan interests.

2027: NAAM Questions INEC Over Exclusion of Pantami, Adebutu, Others
By Auwal Umar, Gombe
The National Association of Achievers Movement (NAAM) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to explain the exclusion of some governorship candidates from its final list for the 2027 general elections while clarifying the legal basis for recognising others whose nomination processes have also attracted public scrutiny.
The association specifically questioned the omission of Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, Ladi Adebutu in Ogun State and Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo in Kano State.
It also called for clarification on the inclusion of Senator Shehu Buba Umar of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State, former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa State and Kingsley Chinda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
The NAAM National President, Prof. Bishop Fumlack Victor, who stated this while speaking with Journalists in Gombe on Wednesday, said the commission needed to demonstrate that electoral laws were being applied consistently and transparently to all political parties and candidates.
“Our concern is that INEC should demonstrate that the same applicable legal standards have been applied fairly, consistently and transparently to every political party and candidate,” Mr Victor said.
He said the contrasting decisions on the candidates had raised questions that required evidence-based explanations from the electoral commission, while acknowledging that the cases might involve different facts and legal circumstances.
“We are not calling for the arbitrary disqualification of any candidate. We are calling for transparency, equal treatment, due process and electoral justice,” the association said.
INEC had attributed the exclusion of some candidates to non-compliance with party membership-register requirements under Sections 77(5) and 77(7) of the Electoral Act 2026, according to the statement.
However, NAAM said the commission should provide specific details of the grounds for each exclusion, including whether the relevant political parties submitted their membership registers within the prescribed period and whether the affected candidates appeared in those records.
In Gombe State, the omission of Mr Pantami has attracted particular attention after he emerged as the PDP governorship candidate in a fresh primary conducted following earlier litigation over the party’s nomination process.
NAAM said his emergence from the primary did not automatically settle questions concerning compliance with other statutory requirements, but urged INEC to explain how those requirements informed its decision to omit him.
The association also requested clarification on the circumstances surrounding Mr Adebutu’s exclusion in Ogun State and Mr Gwarzo’s omission in Kano State.
It said the commission should explain whether the decisions were based solely on membership-register compliance or whether other legal and procedural considerations were involved.
The group also questioned the circumstances surrounding the inclusion of Senator Shehu Buba Umar in Bauchi, Mr Chinda in Rivers and Mr Adamu in Nasarawa.
Regarding Senator Umar, NAAM asked whether his PRP membership was properly documented, whether the party submitted its register within the stipulated period and whether his nomination complied with the applicable legal requirements.
For Rivers State, the association sought clarification on Mr Chinda’s APC membership and nomination, following public questions about the timing of his party registration, the governorship primary and his reported defection from the PDP.
In Nasarawa, it asked INEC to explain the legal and procedural basis for recognising Mr Adamu’s nomination following the reported withdrawal of an earlier SDP nominee and a subsequent substitution process.
The association stressed that raising questions about these candidates did not amount to an allegation of wrongdoing.
“We are not asking INEC to presume wrongdoing. We are asking it to explain the basis for its decisions and the evidence supporting them,” the statement said.
NAAM called on the commission to identify any material differences between the cases that could justify different outcomes, insisting that similar circumstances should be assessed under the same applicable legal standards.
It also urged INEC to take corrective action where an administrative error or unlawful decision was established, subject to applicable laws, judicial decisions and statutory timelines.
The group said it was not demanding the automatic reinstatement of Mr Pantami, Mr Adebutu or Mr Gwarzo, nor was it seeking the removal of candidates already included on the list.
“If a candidate has satisfied the applicable requirements, that candidate should be recognised in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
“If a candidate has failed to satisfy a mandatory statutory requirement, the relevant authorities should act through the lawful procedures available to them.”
NAAM further encouraged affected political parties and candidates to pursue available legal and administrative remedies within the stipulated timelines.
It said the credibility of the 2027 elections would depend partly on whether Nigerians could understand the legal basis for INEC’s decisions on candidate nominations.
“No candidate should be above the law. No eligible candidate should be unfairly excluded. No political party should be subjected to a different legal standard without a defensible basis,” the association said.
The group urged INEC to provide timely explanations of the disputed cases, saying transparency and equal treatment were essential to sustaining public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

2027: Tompolo’s Movement Launches Gombe Chapter, Deploys 26 Campaign Vehicles
The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a political group campaigning for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, has inaugurated its Gombe State chapter and presented 26 vehicles to boost grassroots mobilisation ahead of the general elections.
The movement, founded by Niger Delta businessman Government Oweizide-Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, inaugurated the chapter on Tuesday, with the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, Kestin Pondi, representing the founder.
At the event, Mr Pondi commended Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for his administration’s infrastructure projects, saying the governor’s performance could strengthen the All Progressives Congress’s electoral prospects in the state.
He attributed the increased resources available to state governments for development to President Tinubu’s decision to remove the petrol subsidy on May 29, 2023, arguing that the policy had made more funds available for distribution to the states.
“These things will not happen if you, as the governor and chief steward of Gombe State, do not decide to put those monies to good use,” Mr Pondi said.
He praised the Gombe State Government’s road construction projects, particularly efforts to connect communities, describing them as evidence of governance that could help promote the President’s development agenda.
“Your Excellency, sir, if every governor is doing what you are doing in Gombe State today, we will not be working so hard to campaign because you are the campaign that the people need,” he said.
Mr Pondi said the 26 vehicles would strengthen the movement’s door-to-door campaign and enable its members to reach more communities, engage voters and communicate the administration’s policies, particularly to young people.
He urged Governor Yahaya to provide the group with the necessary guidance and support to coordinate its activities across the state.
“We will hand over the vehicles to you so that you can work with the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement. Grant them the enabling environment, guide them and tell them who to meet. Use them as your team,” he said.
The Tantita managing director also called on Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, expressing confidence that the movement’s grassroots strategy would help mobilise voters ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Movement targets grassroots support
The National Coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Sunday Asuku, said the organisation intended to advance its political objectives through direct engagement with voters and community-level mobilisation.
However, parts of Mr Asuku’s remarks referred to former President Goodluck Jonathan, including appeals for another four-year term and support for Jonathan in 2027. The statements appeared inconsistent with the movement’s declared support for President Tinubu, and the discrepancy could not be clarified from the available transcript.
Governor Yahaya welcomed the inauguration of the movement’s state chapter, linking Gombe’s development priorities to policies introduced by the Federal Government.
He described Gombe as an important agricultural state, highlighting the contributions of farmers, livestock producers, processors and young people involved in agricultural activities.
“Gombe is a gem in Nigeria, an agricultural and agrarian state. All these people that you see are very happy to key into the agenda of the President,” the governor said.
Mr Yahaya also highlighted ongoing and proposed road projects designed to improve connections between Gombe and neighbouring states.
He said his administration had been seeking federal support for infrastructure development to improve transportation links, facilitate trade and stimulate economic growth.
The governor further mentioned the proposed federal cargo airport, describing improved infrastructure as essential to expanding agricultural activities and supporting other sectors of the state’s economy.
The launch of the movement’s Gombe chapter adds to political mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, as supporters of President Tinubu seek to strengthen the ruling party’s grassroots presence.
