Adamawa govt to administer anti-snake venom free to victims
The Adamawa State government is set to begin distribution of Anti-Snake Venom (ASV) across hospitals, free of charge on potential victims.
Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri disclosed this at the distribution of two Toyota Hilux and 42 motorcycles for healthcare supervisors donated by Global Fund through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Yola on Friday.
Fintiri, who was represented by the commissioner of Health and Human Services, Dr Felix Tangwami, assured that those who have cases of snake bites would be treated free of charge.
According to him, at the end, there will be a report that will capture the name and phone number of the beneficiaries.
Fintiri while reiterating continued support for the health sector, appreciated the donors, and assured that the donation would be judiciously used for the intended purpose.
He further warned staff against using motorcycles for commercial purposes so as to achieve the desired objectives.
Dr Boniface Gundiri, Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Agency for the Control of AIDS (ADSACA), said the gesture would help address challenges faced in supervising their activities especially in hard to reach areas.
He thanked the donors and urged staff handling the vehicles and motorcycles to handle them with care for effective service delivery.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of health, Mathias Zira, thanked partners and state government for procurement of 36,000 dual HIV testing kits to ensure that all pregnant mothers in the state were tested to know their status.
According to him, the government also procured 3,600 hepatitis B test kits and 3,600 hepatitis C kits to use in areas that are more vulnerable in the state.
Dr Mohammed Bello, Coordinator, State Action Sexually Transmitted Infection, STI, and Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (SASCAP) who spoke on behalf of the supervisors assured to use the vehicles and motorcycles Judiciously.
