Adamawa pumps over N400 million into healthcare projects to improve service delivery.
In order to safeguard the health and well-being of its citizens, the Adamawa State government has invested about N495 million to improve the quality of health care service delivery.
Dr. Felix Tangwani, the Commissioner for Health, revealed the spending breakdown during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.
Tangwani said N170 million was released to the Adamawa Health Insurance Agency, N187 million was dedicated to procuring essential drugs, and N45 million was spent on successfully upgrading the Obstetric and Gynaecology Centre at the Specialist Hospital Yola.
The commissioner commended the efforts of the Governor Fintiri administration, attributing N93 million to the procurement of equipment for healthcare facilities across the state, including Demsa.
“These investments represent a major step forward for healthcare in Adamawa State,” Tangwani remarked.
“The Lamurde Cottage Hospital is nearing completion and ready for inauguration soon; upgrading the Obstetric and Gynaecology Centre at the Specialist Hospital Yola will significantly improve care for women and children.”
Tangwani further emphasised the administration’s commitment to strengthening partnerships and infrastructure development.
“We have fulfilled our counterpart funding obligations to all development partners and completed the laboratory at the Numan General Hospital’s Paediatric Unit, alongside the Out Patient Department (OPD) at Mubi General Hospital,” he stated.
“We are actively training health workers to ensure they can provide the highest quality services to our people,” Tangwani explained.
“The administration has additionally implemented subsidies to ease the financial burden of dialysis treatment, eliminating the need for residents to travel to Gombe and other locations for this vital care.
“We have deployed 10 medical officers and eight pharmacists specifically to combat outbreaks of Lassa fever, measles, and cholera within the state,” he said.
