Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa has taken over as the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), succeeding Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet. The handing-over ceremony, held at the NAF Headquarters in Abuja, marked a major change in the force’s public relations leadership.
In his remarks, Air Commodore Akinboyewa expressed gratitude to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Balaubakar, for entrusting him with the responsibility. He acknowledged the daunting task ahead but vowed to make the best of it, seeking guidance from the Chief of Air Staff and his senior colleagues.
Akinboyewa while thanking the Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Abubakar for the deeming him worthy of the appointment, he commended his predecessor, Gabkwet, for his outstanding work in projecting the NAF’s image and keeping the public informed about its efforts. He emphasized the importance of synergy between the NAF and the media, urging continued support and partnership.
Gabkwet, in his farewell address, thanked the Chief of Air Staff for the opportunity to serve as DOPRI for the second time. He described Akinboyewa as a worthy successor, well-prepared to move the directorate forward. Gabkwet also appreciated the media’s support during his tenure and encouraged them to extend the same to his successor.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Abuja Chapter, Mr. Stanley Ogidiga congratulated Gabkwet on his new role as Director of the Civil-Military Relations Branch. He welcomed Akinboyewa, pledging the institute’s total support to the NAF under his leadership.
As Akinboyewa assumes his new role, he faces the challenge of maintaining the NAF’s reputation and building on the successes of his predecessor. With his experience and commitment to open communication, he is poised to strengthen the force’s relationship with the media and the public.
