APC Chieftain Mustapha Joins Adamawa Governorship Race, Promises to Deepen Development

A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mustapha Salihu, has officially declared his ambition to contest the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State, vowing to strengthen ongoing developmental projects and introduce policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents.

Salihu made the declaration on Wednesday in Yola, where he unveiled his governorship aspiration before party supporters and stakeholders.

The former North-East Zonal Vice Chairman of the APC said his administration, if elected, would preserve and advance the achievements recorded under Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, particularly in infrastructure renewal, economic growth, and social intervention programmes.

According to him, sustaining progress in the state requires leadership that can consolidate existing gains while introducing fresh ideas capable of driving broader development across communities.

Salihu stated that he anchors his vision for the state on inclusive leadership, accountability, and policies that directly address the needs of ordinary citizens.

He also pledged to ensure prudent management of public resources and efficient delivery of government services across critical sectors.

The APC stalwart further stressed the importance of collaboration with the Federal Government, saying he would work closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to attract federal projects, investments, and security support to the state.

Salihu assured party members and residents that he would uphold the confidence placed in him by political leaders and the electorate if entrusted with the governorship mandate.

Speaking during the event, the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, described Salihu as a dependable and experienced politician with the capacity to lead the state.

Wesley urged residents and APC supporters to rally behind the aspirant in the forthcoming 2027 election, noting that his emergence could help sustain developmental momentum in the state after the current administration.

As part of activities marking his declaration, Salihu also paid a visit to the APC secretariat, where he formally presented himself to party officials and submitted his nomination documents.

Aliyu Musa, Adamawa

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Alhaji Hamza Madagali, has pledged that the party will conduct a credible, open and transparent governorship primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Madagali gave the assurance on Friday in Jimeta when he received one of the party’s governorship hopefuls, Mr Felix Tangwami, stressing that fairness and equal opportunity would guide the selection process.

He said the party leadership under his watch would not favour any aspirant, ensuring that all contestants would compete on a level field.

“Every aspirant will be given a fair chance. We are determined to organise a primary election that reflects the true will of party members and upholds democratic values,” he stated.

The APC chairman further noted that the same standard of transparency would apply across all elective contests, from the State House of Assembly to the governorship, adding that the party is committed to strengthening internal democracy.

Earlier, Tangwami, who currently serves as the Commissioner for Health in the state, congratulated Madagali on his emergence as party chairman and reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC.

He explained that his visit was to formally inform the party leadership of his intention to contest the governorship, describing his ambition as a call to serve the people of Adamawa.

According to him, unity, discipline and respect for party structures will remain central to his political journey.

Tangwami acknowledged the strides recorded under Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, noting that his experience in government has positioned him to build on existing achievements while introducing fresh ideas.

He outlined key areas of focus to include economic growth, industrial development, youth and women empowerment, agriculture, improved healthcare delivery, enhanced security and affordable housing.

“Our goal is to expand opportunities, support businesses and improve the overall quality of life for our people,” he said.

The aspirant also emphasised the importance of credible primaries, rejecting any form of candidate imposition and insisting that a transparent process remains the best way to produce widely accepted leaders.

In a separate engagement, Tangwami met with members of the Forum of Special Assistants to the Governor, where he reiterated his commitment to inclusive leadership and accountability.

Speaking on behalf of the forum, its chairman, Mr Adamu Kiri, expressed confidence in Tangwami’s capacity and urged him to actively participate in the primary election, warning against consensus arrangements that could weaken democratic credibility within the party.

Adamawa Crisis: Bwatiye Group Urges Tinubu to Step In as Communal Violence Claims 12 Lives

The Pene Da Bwatiye Development Association Worldwide has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene in the renewed communal violence between the Bachama and Tchobo communities in Adamawa State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the clash, which has reportedly left 12 people dead, has thrown the affected communities in Lamurde Local Government Area into fear and uncertainty.

Speaking at a press conference in Yola on Friday, the association’s president, Chief James Iliya, said the conflict, which centers on a long-standing farmland dispute between the Tchobo and Bwatiye communities of Rigangun and Waduku, first erupted in July before resurfacing again on Monday.

Iliya called for the setting up of an independent and transparent judicial panel of inquiry to thoroughly investigate the killings. He said the panel should include respected civil society leaders, human rights experts, and judicial officials, as well as representatives of the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), with its findings made public.

According to him, swift intervention by the Federal Government is critical to restoring peace and rebuilding trust among the affected communities.

“We appeal to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, and the Chief of Defence Staff to intervene without delay and initiate these restorative steps,” Iliya said.

“The world is watching. Our grief is deep, but our determination to pursue justice and peace remains unshaken.”

The association further demanded formal apologies and comprehensive reparations from the Nigerian Army and the Federal Government to the families of the 12 women reportedly killed during the crisis. Iliya added that support should also be extended to other victims currently receiving treatment in hospitals across the state.

Meanwhile, NAN reports that the spokesperson of the 23 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Yola, Capt. Olusegun Abidoye, has dismissed claims that the women who died during a peaceful protest in Lamurde on Monday were shot by soldiers.

The situation remains tense as calls grow for an impartial investigation and decisive action to prevent further bloodshed.
