In a show of solidarity and commitment to security, Governor Babagana Zulum visited the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mairari, Guzamala Local Government Area, on Tuesday to boost the morale of troops stationed in the strategic border town.

Mairari, which shares a border with the Republic of Niger, endured two insurgent attacks last December. However, the gallant troops successfully repelled the attacks, preventing any major threat to lives and property.

During his resilience-building tour of five northern Borno Local Councils, Governor Zulum commended the troops for their bravery, describing their gallantry as “the backbone of peace and stability in the entire state.”

He added, “Your resilience and commitment inspire confidence in our people. I want to assure you that my administration will continue to provide all necessary logistics and welfare support to boost your morale. This support will enhance your operational effectiveness in protecting Mairari against Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents.”

Governor Zulum emphasised that the state government, in collaboration with the federal government and the military high command, would ensure a steady supply of operational logistics, mobility support, and welfare packages to keep troops combat-ready.

Major General Suleiman Saidu Tilawan, Commander of Sector 3, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), praised Governor Zulum for his proactive support. “The assistance we receive from the Borno State Government and the Theatre Commander has been exceptional. It has improved logistics, morale, and confidence among our troops to confront threats head-on,” he said.

During his visit, Zulum also interacted with residents of Mairari, commending their courage and resilience. He announced cash assistance for those affected by the recent attacks to alleviate their hardships and support their livelihoods.

Additionally, the Governor inspected the abandoned Federal Government College (FGC), Monguno, that was vandalised by Boko Haram in 2014, reaffirming his commitment to rebuilding critical infrastructure in the state.

Governor Zulum’s visit underscores the administration’s determination to strengthen security, support communities, and enhance the welfare of troops on the frontline of the fight against insurgency.
