The Borno State Government has targeted 90% budget performance to complete projects in the health, education, infrastructure, and environment sectors of the economy by the end of 2025.
The House of Assembly increased this year’s proposed budget of N619 billion by N31 billion to execute various projects in the education sector that gulped N74.62 billion.
This was disclosed on Monday in Maiduguri, while the Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Babagana Malumbe, was briefing journalists on the completion of dozens of projects in critical sectors, including health and education for a sustainable development.
He noted that the adoption of technology and innovation in the implementation of this year’s budget is critical in meeting the budget performance of over 90%.
“Last year’s budget performance was only 84 percent with the budgetary total allocations of N419.73 billion,” he stated.
In the health sector, he said that the budgetary allocation of N92.2 billion, with an increase of 78% over last year’s, was to construct hospitals, primary health centres, and the state’s teaching hospital.
The commissioner continued, “The health sector’s budgetary provisions are for the construction of dental, eye, and general hospitals across the state.
He said the execution of these projects is to achieve universal health coverage for the people and vulnerable groups.
In ensuring affordable healthcare delivery services, he reiterated that the hospitals will be equipped by procuring advanced medical equipment.
To ease commuting within and outside that state, he stated that electric vehicles and tricycles will be procured this year for distribution in Jere local council areas.
