CAS Urges Mentorship, Discipline in Conference with AWOs, RSMs
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has called for renewed commitment to mentorship, discipline, and leadership within the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). Speaking at a conference held on November 26, 2024, Air Marshal Abubakar engaged Air Warrant Officers (AWOs) and Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) from units across the country, emphasizing their critical role in fostering professionalism among Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs).
The CAS highlighted the pivotal position of AWOs and RSMs as mentors and links between the Officer Cadre and Other Ranks, urging them to revive the declining culture of mentorship within their units. He emphasized that their leadership is essential for maintaining discipline and achieving operational success.
“Discipline and regimentation are the bedrock of professionalism in the Nigerian Air Force. Today’s conference goes beyond reviewing the past year; it is a strategic dialogue to consolidate our gains, address shortcomings, and strengthen leadership at all levels,” Air Marshal Abubakar stated.
The CAS also stressed the importance of AWOs and RSMs aligning with his Command Philosophy, noting that their commitment directly impacts the successful execution of NAF’s objectives. He called on them to uphold high standards of discipline and ensure airmen and airwomen under their command remain focused and professional in their duties.
The conference featured presentations by AWOs and RSMs on activities within their areas of responsibility and an interactive session addressing concerns and feedback from the field.
Air Commodore Olusola F. Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, described the event as a vital platform for dialogue, leadership development, and operational effectiveness.
