Corps members donate food items, others to orphans in Adamawa
Some Corps members of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) club of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have donated food and non-food items to Government Orphanage and Day-Care Centre in Yola, Adamawa.
NYSC Coordinator in the state Malam Ibrahim Tukur said this during the presentation of the items to the centre on Tuesday in Yola.
The coordinator, represented by Mr Sumla Elisha, Head of Department, Community Development Service of the scheme, said the donation was part of a humanitarian gesture to assist the less privileged.
He listed the items to include detergent, soap, custard, milk, beverages, diapers, toothpaste and biscuits.
The Coordinator lauded the initiative of the group and urged them to sustain the effort.
He advised the corps members to do more in the area of psycho-social support and contribute positively to orphans having quality education.

According to him, the orphans have the right to be among the key officials in the country but will not be able to achieve that without basic opportunities.
“The orphans would not forget the kind gesture as it would remain with them for life,” he said.
Mr Abdullahi Abbas, president of the group said that the humanitarian support to orphans would not be a waste and appealed for judicious use of the items.
Also, Ms Rukayya Suleiman, Officer-in-charge of the orphanage appreciated the corps members for their love and respect for the orphans.
Suleiman assured that the items would be judiciously used to take care of the orphans.
