Court Rejects Yahaya Bello’s Bail Request
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on Tuesday dismissed a bail application filed by the former governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello.
In her ruling, the presiding judge, Justice Maryann Anenih ruled that the application was premature, as it was submitted on November 22, before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) formally took Bello into custody on November 26. The ex-governor was subsequently arraigned on Nov. 27.
Justice Anenih noted that bail applications must comply with procedural standards, including the applicant being in custody at the time of filing. The EFCC is prosecuting Bello over allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure as governor.
