Defence Headquarters Warns Terrorists to Surrender or Face Annihilation
In a strong-worded statement released on Friday, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) issued a stark ultimatum to terrorists, urging them to surrender to the advancing troops or brace themselves for severe consequences.
The Director of Defence Media Operation, Maj. Gen. Buba Edward in a statement on Friday emphasized that the military would persist in applying unrelenting pressure on terrorists across various operational theatres.
The statement highlighted the continued efforts of the armed forces in dealing with the insurgency, stating, “The armed forces will continue to apply strong military pressure, as witnessed in the past week. The terrorists and their cohorts will face heavy casualties, and it is in their best interest to surrender to avoid eventual destruction, mirroring the success seen in the Northeast of the country.”
During the past week, Maj. Gen. Buba disclosed that the military’s operations resulted in the neutralization of 50 terrorists and the apprehension of 122 individuals connected to terrorism. Additionally, the troops successfully arrested 49 perpetrators involved in oil theft and rescued 182 kidnapped hostages.
Highlighting the crackdown on oil theft in the South-South region, the statement revealed that troops prevented the theft of crude products worth N128 million. Operations in the Niger Delta area led to the destruction of 242 dugout pits, 49 boats, 78 storage tanks, one tricycle, 21 vehicles, 104 cooking ovens, 3 pumping machines, 7 outboard engines, and 49 illegal refining sites. Notably, troops recovered 151,850 litres of stolen crude oil, 48,630 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 10,125 litres of DPK.
Maj. Gen. Buba highlighted the significant haul of weapons and ammunition during these operations, including 66 assorted weapons and 11,474 assorted rounds of ammunition. The recovered arsenal comprised a conqueror APC, one GPMG, one NSVT gun, one GT3 rifle, 25 AK47 rifles, 4 pump-action guns, 2 locally made AK47 rifles, 3 locally made guns, one locally made revolver gun, 4 locally fabricated pistols, and 4 long Dane guns. Additionally, various ammunition types were seized, along with vehicles, mobile phones, motorcycles, radios, and a substantial sum of money.
