EFCC Detains Ex-Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello for Alleged Fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, over allegations of multibillion-naira fraud.
Dele Oyewale, EFCC spokesperson, confirmed the arrest to newsmen stating that Bello was apprehended at about 12:54 p.m. on Tuesday at the commission’s Abuja office.
“Bello was declared wanted by the EFCC but failed to surrender himself. Our operatives arrested him in Abuja, and he is currently in custody,” Oyewale disclosed.
He further revealed that the former governor is undergoing interrogation with investigators. “Three of his lawyers are present with him, and he will be arraigned in court following the conclusion of investigations,” Oyewale added.
Bello’s detention marks a significant step in the EFCC’s efforts to address allegations of financial mismanagement during his tenure as governor.
