FG, Borno unite in distributing palliatives to 400,000 vulnerable households

The Federal and Borno State governments have united in distributing palliatives to 400, 000 vulnerable households to cushion their hardships of the recent fuel subsidy removal
Governor Babagana Zulum has targeted 2.4 million vulnerable persons for the distribution of 27, 000 bags of rice, while the federal government last week, allocated 100,000 bags of rice for distribution in the state.

While distributing the palliatives in Maisandari ward, yesterday (Tuesday), in Maiduguri, Zulum, disclosed that; “In my last four-year tenure in office, no vulnerable persons in the State would be denied the palliatives provided by the federal and state governments,” assuring that no resident or displaced persons in Maiduguri metropolis and the 26 local councils will go hungry, despite the devastating hardships of subsidy removal.
“With good leadership and accountability at the national and state levels, no resident would be exempted in accessing various palliatives to reduce the hardships of removing the 50-year subsidy on petrol.
In distributing the palliatives, he added that there was an existing high-powered committee on the distribution of food and non-food items to displaced persons in camps of Borno state.
According to him, the committee had to “identify and screen” the households in each of the wards, before distributing the relief materials to them.
While addressing 2,000 heads of households at the distribution centre, he said that each of them will get a bag each of rice and beans.
He, therefore, warned that none of the palliatives be sold for profits, as the prices food items continue to rise in the markets.
