FG, Commission lay foundation for sustainable development, resilience in N’East
The federal government, in collaboration with the North East Development Commission (NEDC), has laid the foundation for a sustainable development and resilience of the people in Borno State.
According to the commission, despite the 15-year Boko Haram insurgency, several projects were completed to overcome the challenges of insecurity and the devastating recent floods in Maiduguri.
This was made known yesterday in Maiduguri, when the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, led a federal government and commission’s delegation to Governor Babagana Zulum.
The Minister, who is on a three-day official visit, inspected several completed projects of NEDC, including the ongoing ones in the health and infrastructural facility sectors in Maiduguri metropolis and Jere Local Council.
Addressing Zulum, who was represented by his deputy, Usman Kadafur stated, “I sympathized with government and the people of Borno state over the humanitarian challenges, insurgency, and the recent floods that destroyed many lives and property.”
He said that the ministry, commission, and other development agencies will partner with the state government in the post-insurgency recovery process by rehabilitating all the critical infrastructural facilities in the education, health, and agriculture sectors.
“We commended the efforts of the governor and development partners for impacting the lives of people, despite the over a decade-long insurgency.” In his remarks, Kadafur thanked Ahmadu for the visit to assess the levels of humanitarian crisis facing the people in the state.
He noted that the commission has been a committed partner in the development process of our state. “Despite the insecurity and climate challenges, there is going to a light at the end the tunnel,” he noted.
Other completed projects that were inspected by the Minister, include the Centre for the Study of Violent Extremism (CSVE) at the University of Maiduguri, Pharmaceutical store, Federal Neuro-Psychiayric and the Dental Hospitals, including seven other projects that reached 85 percent completion for commissioning.
