FG Unveils Fashion Hub in Borno, Eyes 48,000 Jobs
The Federal Government has inaugurated an ultramodern fashion manufacturing hub in Maiduguri, Borno State, with a target of generating over 48,000 jobs.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who commissioned the facility on Tuesday, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering innovation, upskilling the workforce, and promoting equitable wealth distribution across the country.
According to Shettima, the nation’s strength lies in its skilled and enterprising citizens rather than natural resources. He emphasized that empowering businesses was crucial for poverty eradication and economic stability.
At the event, Shettima announced unconditional grants of N300,000 for outstanding Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as part of the government’s N75 billion support package.
“The MSME Clinics serve as a direct platform for entrepreneurs to engage with regulatory agencies, financial institutions, and business support organizations, providing real-time solutions to business challenges,” he stated.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the newly launched hub is one of the largest ever established by the Federal Government, equipped with cutting-edge facilities to support Borno’s fashion manufacturing cluster.
Shettima disclosed that the facility would be managed by a private sector entity, with federal and state oversight, aiming to set a benchmark for enterprise, training, and excellence nationwide.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum expressed optimism that the initiative would revitalize business activities and create employment opportunities in the state.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, described the launch as a milestone in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, aligning with the government’s 8-point agenda.
Similarly, Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Sen. John Eno, highlighted the MSME Clinic’s role in unlocking economic opportunities and fostering small business growth.
Presidential aide on MSMEs and Job Creation, Mr. Tola Johnson, also lauded the initiative, noting its potential to drive economic transformation in Borno.
