Foundation donates N74 million for food items to build 50 houses for Borno flood victims

A Canadian-based Humanity Foundation has donated N74 million in food items to the Borno state government for distribution to the flood victims of Maiduguri.
According to the Foundation, fifty houses will also be constructed for residents that cannot afford to rebuild their destroyed houses.
Presenting the donations and housing pledges yesterday (Tuesday), in Maiduguri, the Alberta Edmonton Hospital, Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adam Abba-Aji disclosed: “I had to write a letter to the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, of our visit to Borno State and sympathise over the recent flood disasters,” stating that a copy of Trudeau’s letter was also presented to Governor Babagana Zulum.
Additionally, he said that the short- and long-term interventions are, however, critical for the flood victims to be sheltered with the restoration of their livelihoods.
Speaking of the construction of houses, he said: “As some of the flood victims will not be allowed to return to their houses on the riverbanks, they cannot afford to build new houses.
“We’ve pledged to build 50 housing units of a single bedroom for the residents that cannot afford to build their homes. They were sacked in the recent flood that destroyed many lives and property.”
Humanity Foundation, located on Ford Road, Edmonton, Canada, will also provide healthcare and sanitary kits to the flood victims taking refuge in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps of Bakassi, Dalori, Muna, and Gubio Road.
Stunned by the floods of donations from Canada, Zulum said: “I am proud of you, Professor Abba-Aji, as Canada was the first foreign country to visit us over the flood disasters.
“Despite the furthest distance from Maiduguri, you personally wrote a letter to the PM of your humanitarian assistance being rendered to us,” noting that the CMD also submitted a copy of Trudeau’s letter to the governor.
He, therefore, thanked and commended Prof. Abba-Aji for the food and non-food items, including the 50 housing units to be built for the flood victims.
Zulum assured that all the donations from the Foundation will be judiciously utilised in alleviating the sufferings of the affected residents.
