Gen Ezugwu lauds Buratai as Best Army Chief, Outstanding Military Strategist

Former Director-General of Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Major General Victor Okwudili Ezugwu has applauded General Tukur Yusuf Buratai for his outstanding service as an exceptional military strategist and leader.
Gen Ezugwu who is also the brain behind the Ezugwu Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, made this statement during an exclusive interview session with Ournigerianews Tv in Abuja.
He disclosed that throughout his career in the Army, the best Chief of Army Staff is General Tukur Yusuf Buratai Rtd, due to his compassion and empathy for officers, great military strategy and leadership.
In his words, “During my career in the Nigerian Army which I spent over 34 years of commission service. I’ve been privileged to fight in Sierra Leone, Liberia (ECOMOG), Bakkasi Pennisula (Cameroon struggle for a borderland in Nigeria), Warri (Ijaw and Ishekiri war). Then I was privileged to take part in virtually all the contemporary operations in the Northeast from Adamawa to Maiduguri.

“With all due respect, I don’t think any officer in the Nigerian Army from when NDA was established in 1964, till this day has an active record of being involved successfully, gallantly and meritoriously in virtually all the operations of the Nigerian Army.
“In these operations that I’ve been involved in, I’ve passed through several Army Chiefs (COAS) from 1990 till today, and General Tukur Yusuf Buratai is the most outstanding military strategist and general that I can say I wanted to be like.
“He impressed me with his kind of leadership; he is a warrior, a very good and courageous man. You know if you’re not courageous you can’t be successful in battle.
The newly retired major general also said Buratai was the type of leader that made room for growth amongst his staff, detecting their special gifts and skills and helping them harness them to the fullest.
Ezugwu noted General Buratai’s prowess in battle and how he fought severally alongside his troops in battle. “We’d see him advancing in front, they’d say COAS is coming behind with a vehicle. None has done that ever since, only he (Buratai) has done that.
“In him, I saw a man of courage, I saw a man who has compassion for his troops and officers, a man who wants his officers to be better than him.
“He groomed all of us. There is no major general in the Nigerian Army from 2015 that he took over till when he retired 2years ago that General Buratai did not groom to become very successful officers.
“So, in him I see a very great military strategist and leader. I want to wish him well even now that I am out of office, I’ll continue to learn and tap from his leadership style. I adore him so much and wish him well in the future.”
Ezugwu also said that Buratai understands the country and security matters very well, so he’s ready to give his unwavering support to Buratai whenever the need arises.
