Senator Ibrahim Gaidam has empowered youths with 60 tricycles to restore their destroyed means of livelihoods in the 14-year Boko Haram insurgency.
The youths are drawn from the Yobe East Senatorial District, represented by the Sen. Gaidam at the National Assembly.
According to him, the tricycles could fight both unemployment and poverty among the targeted youths in the district.
While distributing the engagement machines, yesterday (Friday), in Damaturu, Sen. Gaidam, represented by his aide, Mohammed Goni Kuwata, disclosed: “The empowerment of youths was part of the 2022 district intervention projects aimed at alleviating poverty.”
He stated that the engagement of the youths was also to realize their socio-economic potentials of restoring their livelihoods.
Besides, he added that the important lesson which the youths should imbibe was to become self-employment, instead of depending on government handouts.
Continued; “We took initiative to create employment by organising training where youths acquire new skills in various economic sectors of the economy.”
He listed the various skills to include fish farming, pomade making, solar installation, tie and dye, sewing, shoe and bag-making among others.
