Gov Inuwa reiterates commitment to collaborating with TETfund to enhance infrastructure at GSU
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has reiterated his commitment to collaborating with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) to enhance the infrastructure of Gombe State University (GSU) and other state-owned higher institutions, aiming to create conducive environments for effective education.
Governor Inuwa made these remarks during the inauguration of numerous TETfund-funded projects at Gombe State University. He praised the university’s significant societal impact and expressed gratitude to key figures involved in its establishment, including former Governor Dajuma Goje and the late Professor Abdullahi Mahdi, the pioneer Vice-Chancellor.
Reflecting on his past role as a member of the planning and implementation committee during the university’s establishment in 2004, Governor Inuwa emphasized the contributions of students and staff to both Gombe State and the nation. He assured continued commitment to the university’s growth and success through collective dedication and responsible actions.
Governor Inuwa also mentioned addressing substantial gully erosion near the university and expressed confidence in the effective utilization of the newly inaugurated buildings. He pledged to maintain a strong partnership with TETfund for additional interventions as the state’s tertiary institutions expand.
The Governor expressed gratitude to TETfund for its consistent support of higher education institutions in the state, particularly under the leadership of Arc. Sonny Echono. He announced plans to expand Gombe State University to a Dukku campus, accommodating the Faculty of Environmental Sciences.
During the event, Governor Inuwa commissioned the Faculty of Education, while other faculties were inaugurated by Minister of Transport Sen. Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, representing President Bola Tinubu, Hon. Aishatu Jibir Dukku, and other dignitaries.
Arc. Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETfund, highlighted that Gombe State University has received over 15 billion naira in interventions since becoming a TETfund beneficiary in 2006, representing 86 per cent of the allocated funds. He commended the judicious use of funds in enhancing teaching, learning, and research at the university.
Governor Inuwa also participated in the combined 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th convocation lectures, where Dr. Usman Bugaje delivered a speech on “Education and Development: The Challenge of Content, Competence, and Character in Nigerian Universities.”
Prominent dignitaries, including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, former Governor of Jigawa State, Alh. Saminu Turaki, and former Chairman of TETfund, Alh. Kashim Ibrahim Imam joined the event.
