Governor Inuwa Flags Off Vaccination Campaign against Killer Diseases
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has flagged off Non-Polio Supplementary Immunization Campaign, a massive vaccination exercise against child killer diseases, calling on parents to present their children for the exercise.
The governor made the call on Thursday during the vaccination flag-off ceremony at the Palace of Emir of Gombe Abubakar Shehu Abubakar the 3rd.
Represented by his deputy Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, the governor said “this administration has placed a high priority on healthcare services, and will maintain same to ensure a healthy society and healthy generation to come”.
While calling on people of the state especially parents to use the opportunity to safeguard their children against killer diseases, the governor charged traditional and religious leaders to intensify awareness campaigns on their subjects, to ensure a successful vaccination exercise.
He appreciated donor agencies, development partners ànd all relevant stakeholders for their efforts towards ensuring a healthy and stable Gombe State, stressing that “all hands must be on deck to ensure the success of the exercise”.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner For Health Dr Habu Dahiru said “Gombe has experienced an outbreak of some child killer diseases some months ago, hence the need for quick response to step up actions in arresting the situation from the bud”.
He said the diseases to be vaccinated against include Measles, Yellow Fever, Meningitis, Tetanus, covid-19, Polio, and Vitamin A deficiency amongst others.
Dr Dahiru added that adequate preparations have been made to ensure the success of the exercise.
“Fixed, temporary and mobile posts were provided across the state, and more than 14,000 personnel were trained to manned the exercise”, maintaining that about 3.1 million people are targeted during the exercise.
Also speaking, the Yariman Gombe and Senior District Head of Gombe Abdulkadir Abubakar, appreciated the state government and all stakeholders for the tamely initiative, calling on district and village heads to mobilize their people and ensure every eligible child is vaccinated in the state.
