Group to establish girls literacy learning centers in Bauchi – ED

Bauchi based (NGO), Syndicate in Supporting Women and Children Initiative (SISWACHI), says it will establish non-formal learning centers to enhance literacy rate among girls in the state.
Mrs Binta Adamu, Executive Director of the organization, told our correspondent Monday in Bauchi, that the centers would be set up in six communities in the state.

Adamu said that the centers would be established in collaboration with the Bauchi State Agency for Mass Education (BASAME), adding that the classes had commenced since November.
She said that the programme was designed to reduce the burden of out-of-school girls in the state.
“Enrollment has commenced in earnest for immediate commencement of the programme.
“The activity will be run for a period of nine months,” she said, adding that participants would also be trained on livelihood skills to enable them to learn trades and become self-reliant.

According to Adamu, about 180 girls are enrolled in Gwalagan Mayaka, Sabon Kaura, Bigi, Gudun Hausa and Gudun Sayawa communities in Bauchi Local Government Area of the state.
Adamu said that BASAME would issue certificates of attendance to participants at the end of the programme.
