Investing in Future: Borno’s N637.5 Million Boost for Nursing Students
In a landmark move, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno has sanctioned the disbursement of N637.5 million to support the education of aspiring nurses in the state.
This substantial financial aid is set to cover both the registration fees and monthly stipends for indigent students at the College of Nursing Sciences, Maiduguri.
Mallam Bala Isa, the Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board, shared the details with the press on Monday.
According to Isa, a significant portion of the funds, amounting to N393.5 million, is allocated for the monthly allowances of 1,088 students, each receiving N30,000 from January through December.
“Additionally, N202.5 million is earmarked for another 1,013 students, and N41.3 million will cover the registration fees for 997 newly-admitted students under scholarship at the college.
Governor Zulum has encouraged the beneficiaries to dedicate themselves to their studies, promising employment within their local communities upon the completion of their training. This initiative not only underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing educational standards but also aims to bolster healthcare services across the state.
The executive secretary’s call to action for citizens to seize these educational opportunities resonates with the government’s vision.
The beneficiaries, including students pursuing a National Diploma in Nursing, Community Nursing, Community Midwifery, and Basic Midwifery, are set to become the backbone of community healthcare in Borno.
