Kebbi Youth Group Rebuts ADC’s Allegation of Opposition Crackdown

By Abdullahi Tukur, Birnin Kebbi

A socio-political organisation, Kebbi Progressives Youth, has rejected claims by the Kebbi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) accusing the state government of targeting opposition members.

The ADC had, during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, alleged that the administration of Governor Nasir Idris was deploying the executive arm, judiciary, and other state institutions to intimidate and silence dissenting voices within the opposition.

According to the party, some of its officials, including the state chairman, were arrested following criticisms of the government on social media. It further claimed that the arrests were carried out on the orders of a magistrate court, with some individuals reportedly held in detention for more than two months.

However, in a swift response, Kebbi Progressives Youth dismissed the accusations as baseless and misleading. In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Hamisu Sani, the group insisted that the governor was not involved in the legal actions taken against the individuals mentioned.

Sani emphasised that law enforcement agencies and the courts operate within their constitutional mandates, noting that no individual is above the law, regardless of political affiliation.

“Opposition status does not confer immunity from legal accountability, just as being part of the ruling party does not place anyone beyond the reach of the law,” he said.

He urged those affected to pursue appropriate legal channels or seek amicable resolutions with complainants, rather than attributing their situation to political persecution.

Describing Governor Idris as a committed democrat, Sani maintained that there was no credible evidence to support claims of harassment against opposition members.

The group also praised the governor’s ongoing development initiatives and social intervention programmes, cautioning political actors against actions that could divert attention from governance.

Massive Crowd in Birnin Kebbi Rally Boosts Idris, Tinubu Re-election Drive — Youth Group

By Tukur Abdullahi, Birin Kebbi

A large political gathering in Birnin Kebbi has reinforced growing momentum for the re-election ambitions of Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris and Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with a youth organisation describing the turnout as a reflection of strong grassroots support.

Organisers held the rally, which drew thousands of supporters from across Kebbi State, to demonstrate solidarity with the two leaders ahead of future electoral contests. Participants, including a significant number of young people, filled major streets and venues in what observers say was one of the biggest political mobilisations in the state in recent times.

Reacting after the event, the Kebbi Progressive Youths (KEPYO) said the scale of attendance points to widespread public approval of the administrations at both state and federal levels.

Speaking with journalists, KEPYO spokesperson Comrade Hamisu Sani described the turnout as “organic and overwhelming,”, stressing that it was driven by genuine support rather than political coercion.

“What we witnessed today is a clear signal that the people are satisfied with the direction of governance. The turnout, especially by young people, shows confidence in the leadership of Governor Idris and President Tinubu,” he said.

Sani noted that the enthusiastic participation reflects a growing belief among residents that current policies are beginning to address critical development needs in the state and beyond.

He added that the rally also showcased unity among party supporters while increasing grassroots mobilisation ahead of the next election cycle.

According to him, such public demonstrations go beyond symbolism and represent real engagement with governance outcomes and service delivery.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining mobilisation efforts in support of the reelection campaigns, expressing confidence that the momentum generated would translate into electoral gains.

Political watchers say the rally underscores rising political activity in Kebbi State, as stakeholders begin early positioning ahead of forthcoming elections.

A former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Ahmed Galadima, has officially declared his intention to run for governor of Adamawa State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), setting the stage for a potentially competitive contest within the ruling party.

Galadima made his ambition known on Wednesday during a visit to the newly inaugurated state executives of the APC in Yola, where he also pledged allegiance to the party leadership and its structures.

Addressing party officials, he described his decision as the outcome of extensive consultations with a broad spectrum of stakeholders across the state, including elders, youths, women, professionals, and grassroots supporters.

“I present myself as a proud indigene of Adamawa who has devoted three decades to national service, most recently at the PTDF,” he said. “After engaging widely with our people, I have resolved to offer myself for service as governor under the APC.”

The aspirant outlined key priorities of his proposed administration, stressing the need to foster unity across ethnic and religious lines while tackling unemployment and boosting economic opportunities.

He pledged to focus on agricultural development, expand rural infrastructure, improve access to quality healthcare, and create an enabling environment to attract investors and generate jobs for the growing population.

Responding, the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Madagali, assured all aspirants of a transparent and equitable process ahead of the party’s primaries.

He said the party leadership in the state was committed to conducting credible and inclusive primaries, giving every contestant a fair chance to emerge as the party’s flag bearer.

Galadima’s entry into the race adds to early political manoeuvrings ahead of the next governorship election in Adamawa, with analysts expecting more contenders to declare interest in the coming months.
