In a bid to enhance the Nigerian Army’s capabilities and effectiveness, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has charged troops to match the ongoing transformation drive with exceptional operational excellence. This call to action was made during the commissioning of the Armoured Corps Headquarters Complex in Obienu Barracks, Bauchi, where General Lagbaja acknowledged the Federal Government’s support in clearing the backlog of Group Life Assurance and implementing welfare schemes to improve personnel’s living standards.
The transformation drive, which has been ongoing for several months, has seen significant improvements in the NA’s infrastructure, equipment, and personnel welfare. The repair and retrofitting of combat platforms, despite economic challenges, demonstrate the NA’s commitment to operational effectiveness. General Lagbaja emphasized the importance of discipline, dedication, and loyalty among troops, essential for achieving success in their missions.
The COAS also solicited cooperation from serving and retired senior officers to restore the Armoured Corps’ position as the Combat Arm of Decisions, highlighting the importance of collaboration and experience in achieving this goal. The commissioning of a Fire Service Station and POL dump showcased the NA’s focus on infrastructure development and self-sufficiency.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Governor of Bauchi State, represented by Deputy Governor Alhaji Mohammed Auwal Jattau, who praised the NA’s proactive steps in combating security challenges and urged sustained synergy among security agencies. His Eminence, Alhaji (Dr) Mohammadu Saad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, a former Tanker, lauded the COAS for the remarkable transformation and urged its continuation, acknowledging the NA’s crucial role in combating terrorism and insurgency.
According to Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, this development highlights the Nigerian Army’s commitment to operational effectiveness and welfare, ensuring troops are equipped to combat security challenges effectively. The transformation drive has boosted morale, and the COAS’s call to reciprocate with operational excellence is expected to enhance the NA’s overall performance. With the Nigerian Army’s renewed focus on operational effectiveness, the country can expect a more robust and effective response to security challenges.
