The Armed Forces of Nigeria has made significant progress in their operations against terrorists, degrading their capabilities and dismantling their military infrastructure.
Despite the terrorists’ continued presence, the military has achieved notable successes, neutralizing 2,245 terrorists, arresting 3,682 suspected terrorists, and rescuing 1,993 kidnapped hostages between April and June 2024.
Speaking at the bi-weekly briefing at the Defence Headquarters, Director Defence Media Operations Major General Edward Buba said, the military’s resolve is clear: to ensure citizen safety by destroying terrorists and their military capabilities.
Troops he said, are engaged in various forms of combat, maintaining operational flexibility to respond to emerging events and project forces as needed.
While the counter-insurgency campaign is an ongoing marathon, the military has made substantial strides. Terrorists have prioritized their military capabilities, but the armed forces continue to clear areas, recover weapons and explosives, and conduct synchronized ground and air operations to wipe out the terrorists.
The military’s achievements in the second quarter of 2024 include:
– Recovering 2,783 weapons and 64,547 ammunition
– Denying oil theft worth over N10 billion
– Rescuing 1,993 hostages
– Arresting 3,682 suspected terrorists and criminal elements
