Davido, a Nigerian Afrobeat musician, has spoken out about how his father, Mr. Adeleke, had to pay him to return to school. Davido’s real name is David Adeleke.
Davido shared how he almost dropped out of college because he had already begun his music career. But in order for him to finish school, his father Chief Adedeji Adeleke had to pay a bribe.
Davido, who was a guest on the most recent episode of the +44 Amazon Music podcast, revealed that he put music on hold until receiving a second-class degree from college.
He disclosed that his father had made a bargain with him under which, in exchange for attending classes from Monday through Friday, he would construct him a top-notch studio and give him money to film music videos.
He said, “He [my dad] said if I go to school, he has a piece of land not far; he will build me a studio. But I should go to school from Mondays to Fridays and on weekends, work in the studio. It was a world-class studio. He will give me money to shoot some videos.”
