The Nigerian Army held a nationwide Juma’at prayer service on Friday, June 28, 2024, to commemorate the start of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2024.
The event, which took place across various Army formations and units, saw Muslim faithful gather at the Guards Brigade Mosque in Abuja to offer prayers for the unity and success of the nation.
According to Army spokesman, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, “The Juma’at prayer is an essential aspect of our activities to mark the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2024. We are thankful to Allah for the progress and successes recorded by the NA in the past 161 years and we pray for continued peace and unity in Nigeria.”
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who was represented by the Director General Land Forced Simulation Center, Major General Usman Yusuf, emphasized the significance of the prayer service. “We are gathered here today to seek the blessings of Allah for our continued success in all our engagements. I urge all personnel to remain loyal, steadfast, and disciplined as they carry out their constitutional responsibilities.”
The Chief Imam, Captain Salisu Musa, led the congregation in special prayers for the nation, the Armed Forces, and the leaders of the country. The event was attended by senior officers, soldiers, and their families, including the Chief of Policy and Plans, Major General Abdulsalami Ibrahim, and the Provost Marshall, Brigadier General Abubakar Garba.
“This collective display of faith and unity highlights the army’s commitment to the nation’s well-being and their role in maintaining peace and stability,” said Major General Nwachukwu.
“As the Nigerian Army celebrates its day, this prayer service serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and divine guidance in their endeavours.”
