NAF Conducts Successful Strikes Against Terrorists in Northeast and North Central Regions
In a relentless effort to eliminate terrorist threats in Nigeria, the Air Components of Operations Hadin Kai and Whirl Punch have achieved significant success in recent operations in the Northeast and North Central regions. The operations have effectively targeted and dismantled terrorist groups, destroying their structures, equipment, and mobility, thereby reducing their capacity to launch attacks on both military personnel and civilians.
On May 3, 2024, at Chinene, a remote location nestled within the Mandara mountain area, suspicious activities were detected as terrorists were observed gathering from various points and potentially preparing for a meeting. Additionally, seven gun trucks were spotted concealed under trees in the vicinity. In response, authorized air interdiction operations were swiftly carried out over the assembly area and tree coverings to neutralize the threat posed by the terrorists, as well as to eliminate their weapons and transportation capabilities. Following the strike, footage from the Battle Damage Assessment confirmed the success of the operation, with several terrorists neutralized and their logistical support destroyed.

Simultaneously, on the same day, Operation Whirl Punch conducted pre-emptive airstrikes against terrorists who had taken refuge in Allawa village, near Shiroro in Niger State. The operation was prompted by credible intelligence indicating the influx of terrorists into the village after the departure of local residents, who had fled due to concerns for their safety.
Spokesman for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet in a statement Sunday said, the strategic airstrikes carried out by the Nigerian Air Components have demonstrated the government’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the security of its citizens. These decisive actions underscore the importance of proactive measures in countering terrorist activities and safeguarding communities from harm.
In the evening of the same day, another group of terrorists also arrived at the location, wielding AK-47/49 rifles after invading Galapai village in Galadima Kogo District of the same LGA. Accordingly, to prevent further occupation as well as pursue the terrorists from the location, the Air Component scrambled a formation of its platforms to attack the location. On arrival at the location, several terrorists were sighted and engaged effectively. Furthermore, following credible intelligence as well as detailed aerial observation, which confirmed the presence of their cache of arms hidden inside Allawa Forest, the air component further carried out air strikes at the location.
Air strikes were also carried North of Arugbana and Temakiri in the Niger Delta, where Illegal Refining Sites were observed and destroyed. Through this action, the capabilities of oil thieves to continually sabotage and destroy oil pipelines were minimized.
