NDLEA urges Gombe drug addicts to surrender for rehabilitation

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Gombe State Command, has called on marijuana users in the state to surrender for rehabilitation.
Speaking on Saturday at the Pantami Township Stadium, venue of the climax of Gombe Marathon 2021, the Assistant Commander, Drug Demand Reduction, Akomolafe Adekola, lamented the indiscriminate use of the drug among the youth.

Tagged ‘Gombe Marathon to stop Drug Abuse,’ the event was also used used to commemorate the celebration of Gombe @25, with 250 registered runners and more than 500 spectators.
According to Adekola, marijuana is the most commonly abused drug in Gombe and has destroyed the lives of many young people.
While offering open invitation to those who may need help to come for rehabilitation, he called on the general public to report anyone or place where marijuana is being planted or kept.
In his words, “If you have someone that is a drug abuser, you shouldn’t approach him, just report him to us, we know how to approach and pick them up for rehabilitation.”
The state NDLEA Deputy Commander, Olisameka Okafor called on youths in Gombe to eschew all forms of drug abuse and embrace a better life for a better future.

While pledging the support of NDLEA in the fight against drug abuse, Okafor said, “I want to call on those who are already addicted to come for rehabilitation at the NDLEA treatment and care centre in Gombe.”
Also speaking, the convener of the Marathon, Nzomisaki Shadrach, called on government and Civil Society Organisations to key into the initiative.
