NEDC, Energy Solutions graduate 60 youths to deliver electricity in N’East

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) in partnership with the Mainstream Energy Solutions (MEYS) has graduated 60 linesmen to deliver and sustain electricity supply to the Northeast.
According to the Commission, the linesmen were trained at the Mainstream Academy, Jebba, Niger state, to efficiently practice their electrical and other energy professions in the region, comprising six states,
Presenting certificates to the graduands, on Saturday in Maiduguri, Borno state, NEDC Executive Director, Humanitarian Affairs, represented by the Executive Director, Administration and Finance, Garba Iliya disclosed: “This is a testimony to your resilience, determination, and commitment to skills acquisitions in the energy sector.”
He stated that it has equipped the graduates with the necessary tools and ability to the ever-changing global energy sector in the country.
He attributed the human and capital development to employment and empowerment in fostering personal growth among the trained linesmen.
Besides the empowerment, he added that their training will create social impact, with the promotion of innovation and creative self-confidence to overcome the challenges in the energy sector.

“You’re going to adapt the acquired skills to the changing world of an efficient and renewable energy sector in the Northeast,” he said.
He, therefore, congratulated them for expanding their knowledge and other opportunities for growth in the energy sector.
Garba also charged them to explore new horizons by creating impacts in the communities and the country at large.
Garba noted that the 60 linesmen will improve people’s lives by providing regular supply of electricity to homes and industries to boost the ailing economy of the region.
He continued; “You’ve shown us that powering a nation is more than just a job. It’s a responsibility they have shouldered with grace to make the world a better place to live.”
The Executive Director, Mainstream Energy Solutions, Mohammed Umar, said: “We’ll supply electricity to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) for an uninterrupted distribution to homes and industries in the northeast.
He said that besides the training, Mainstream has employed the 60 linesmen for the distribution of electricity and maintenance of other electrical facilities.
The Commission’s Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, said that the graduation of linesmen in the energy sector, is part of the measures in reducing unemployment and poverty in the region, comprising Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Taraba, Gombe and Yobe states.
He, therefore, congratulated the graduates by donating N250, 000 each to them, while the Nigeria Arabic Language village, Ngala in Borno state and the North East Governors Forum (NEGF), were also donated with a utility Toyota Hilux vehicle and an 18-seater bus respectively.
He noted that the donations of the two vehicles are part of the commission’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the region.
Alkali, therefore, doled out N2.5 million each to the Arabic Language village and NEGF to fuel their donated vehicles.
