The Yobe State chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has congratulated Governor Mai Mala Buni for emerging as the Chairman of Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum.
In a statement on Saturday in Damaturu, Comrade Rajab Mohammed disclosed, “The achievement is seen as a significant milestone for the state, Northeast, and the country at large.” While wishing Buni a successful two-year term, he said,
“The governor’s leadership of the forum will transform the Lake Chad Basin into improved livelihoods for people in the region,” noting that the six states and provinces were affected in the 15-year Boko Haram insurgency that claimed many lives and property.
Mohammed also commended the efforts of Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State for providing a conducive and hospitable environment in hosting the three-day meeting at Indimi International Conference Centre, Maiduguri.
Besides the conducive meeting venue, he said, “The council acknowledged the contributions of the Vice President, Kashim Shettima; APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje; the SSG; Chief of Staff; and the state’s commissioner of Information, Abdullahi Bego.” Rajab continued: “The Director General, Press and Media Affairs, Mohammed Mamman; members of National and State Assemblies; security agencies; the media; traditional rulers; CSOs; youth; and women’s groups have supported the forum’s three-day meeting with the release of a 13-point communique to journalists.
